"WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO"

Overview:
The Sponsor a Book! Program was born in March 2003, to respond to the overwhelming need for educational and motivational material in underprivileged neighborhoods, orphanages and Indigenous communities in Mexico.
In 2005, the Sponsor a Book! Program was incorporated into an “Association Civil”, a tax-deductible non-profit association in Mexico.

Objectives of the Program:
1- To promote and encourage reading in underprivileged and marginalized children.
2- To instill positive, character-building values in children.
3- To enable each child, teacher and school principal in disadvantaged situations to have at their disposal their own high quality storybooks in order to encourage reading activities besides the required scholastics program in schools and at home.

Policies:
1- Sponsors choose the recipients of their sponsorships, be they schools, institutions, marginal zones, Indian communities, etc.
2- Our volunteers personally handle all distributions, making sure the books go directly to the kids, and are not misplaced on the way.
3- We try our best to establish a personal contact with the children, and give each child the opportunity to individually chose the books they like best for themselves.

Goals reached:
- 2003: 5,000 children’s books sponsored and distributed free of charge in Nuevo León and in Chiapas
- 2004: over 10,000 children’s books sponsored and distributed free of charge in Nuevo Leon and Chiapas
- 2005: 12,000 children’s sponsored and distributed free of charge in Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua (to the Tarahumaras Indians), the Distrito Federal and La Huasteca Potosina

All these books are Aurora products. Other programs and sponsorships of the Sponsor a Book! Program
